We are an independent group of professionals involved in all stages of film production and distribution. Our work is informed by the sharing of our experiences and the testimonies of representatives from the sector. We offer tools to prevent and combat sexual and gender-based violence and harassment, while respecting each individual, the law and the collective work that is a film.
The group met weekly for over 6 months. Each session was divided into two parts: a time for hearing from professionals, followed by a time for brainstorming and developing ideas, culminating in concrete, detailed proposals aimed at professionals and covering every stage in the life cycle of a film.
The group's key proposals, aimed at professionals and public authorities, whose full support we need, consist of :
-
the signature of a transversal RESPECT CHARTER, common to all cinema professions
-
the creation of RESPECT certification, to commit all films to active prevention and the fight against VHSS, which could occur throughout the film production chain, right up to distribution.
We are therefore proposing a set of criteria to help institutions define their scale as part of the creation of RESPECT certification. As the implementation of a certification system will take time, we are urging professionals in the sector and trade unions to apply them now and to make lasting changes to their practices in terms of preventing and combating HSV.
The group is returning to its work with the desire to help the film industry move towards a genuine paradigm shift. Tolerance of a culture of violence on film sets is deadly, and breaking out of it can only free people up to speak out, guaranteeing the well-being of everyone and fostering creativity.
